Tentatively Reports to: Staff

Classification: Temporary / Summer Intern 

Dates: 6/1/2026 – 8/21/2026 (Some Schedule Flexibility Available)

Salary: $18.75 per hour 

Hours: 40 hours per week

 

General Description: 

 

The Engineering Intern will support the engineering team with activities related to the Lead Service Line (LSL) Replacement Program. This internship provides hands-on experience in infrastructure engineering, data management, project coordination, and regulatory compliance related to water system improvements.

Essential Functions:

Primary Responsibilities: 

 

  • Assist with data collection, organization, and entry related to Lead Service Line inventory and replacement tracking.
  • Support engineering staff with documentation and reporting for regulatory compliance.
  • Review and organize historical utility records, construction documents, and service line records.
  • Assist with mapping and updating infrastructure data in GIS or related asset management systems.
  • Help coordinate field verification efforts and maintain accurate project records.
  • Provide administrative and technical support to engineering staff as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings and project discussions regarding the Lead Service Line program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the Engineering Department.

Learning Opportunities:

Minimum Qualifications: 

 

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

 

Education and Training: 

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.

Experience: 

Completion of at least one (1) year of college coursework preferred.

License or Certifications: 

            Valid Driver’s License

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

 

  • Familiarity with GIS systems, infrastructure mapping, or asset management software.
  • Interest in municipal engineering, water systems, or environmental infrastructure.

Knowledge and Abilities: 

 

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
  • Ability to drive city-owned vehicle

Environment: 

Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with occasional travel to different field sites and locations

 

Physical:
