Interior Design Summer Intern

NELSON has a strong learning & mentoring environment which is embedded into our culture. As a critical part of that- our employees enjoy working with current students to mentor them during the semester. We have year around opportunities in various offices throughout the country. Interns may be assigned based on area of interest such as: Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Sustainability, Accounting, Marketing, Human Resources or other areas of expertise. Interns may also be assigned based on location and support multiple disciplines within a market. Interns will assist with operational duties related to their discipline and provide administrative support as needed. The role of an intern is to gain professional experience while supporting the daily operations of the office.

 

Summary:

The Interior Design Intern will assist with entry level design and operational duties along with providing administrative support as needed. The role of the internship is to gain professional experience by assisting project teams with design and documentation support and becoming familiar with resources and vendors.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize tasks as needed to complete within the identified time frame
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally, graphically and in writing
  • Possess basic hand and CAD drafting skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop
  • Proficiency in Revit is preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Basic knowledge about sustainability, LEED guidelines and wellness preferred 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Assist members of design teams with multiple project related tasks
  • Perform elementary interiors assignments and works from designs of others
  • Maintain appearance of the print rooms, copy areas and resource library in addition to daily tasks as assigned
  • Provide research assistance as assigned
  • Participate in the production/modifications of the design drafting as directed
  • Prepare 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings
  • Participate in design charrettes and project team meetings
  • Assist with updated and organizing interiors resource library
  • Attend “lunch and learn” events and other vendor presentations on an ongoing basis
  • Complete timesheet daily and expense reports accurately and on-time
  • Must be able to work in-person in Cincinnati (some flexibility with hybrid needs may be discussed/accommodated)
