Power Delivery Apprenticeship & Workforce Training Coordinator
Join our team and help develop the next generation of skilled utility professionals. This position serves as the primary coordinator for Power Delivery and System Operations apprenticeship and workforce training programs. The role oversees multiple state-certified apprenticeship programs and works closely with apprenticeship committees, supervisors, and employees to ensure apprentices have the resources, training, and testing support necessary to progress successfully.
Working closely with supervisors, apprenticeship committees, and external partners, this role helps guide apprentices through their career development while maintaining compliance with state apprenticeship standards and safety training requirements.
In addition, the position coordinates broader workforce training initiatives and ensures all required safety training remains current, properly documented, and compliant. The role is also responsible for recruiting participants into apprenticeship and training programs and for collaborating with external governmental agencies to maintain program alignment, certification, and regulatory compliance.
This role combines program coordination, training delivery, and administrative oversight, requiring strong organization, communication, and reporting skills.
What You'll Do:
- Lead and coordinate apprenticeship, workforce training, and safety programs to help apprentices and employees build the skills and knowledge needed for success.
- Deliver and evaluate both field and classroom training, develop lesson plans, and support training delivery to ensure safety standards and program requirements are met.
- Coordinate and administer multiple apprenticeship programs, including Lineworker, Meter, Relay, and Substation Electrician programs.
- Oversee apprentice testing, assessments, certifications, and training milestones while maintaining accurate training records and progress tracking systems.
- Collaborate with supervisors, management, apprenticeship committees, and external partners or agencies to enhance programs, update materials, and maintain regulatory compliance.
- Identify opportunities for program improvement and workforce training development based on operational needs and employee growth opportunities.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience supporting training, apprenticeship, or workforce development programs
- Strong organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple programs and priorities simultaneously
- Effective communicator comfortable working with committees, supervisors, and frontline employees
- Familiarity with utility operations, skilled trades, or safety-driven environments preferred
Minimum Training & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, industrial hygiene, safety engineering, occupational safety and health, natural sciences, environmental sciences, business or public administration; AND
- Two (2) years of technical or professional teaching, training, or safety program experience in the area of utilities, environment, industrial safety and health, or a related field; OR
- High School Diploma or GED; AND
- Six (6) years of technical or professional teaching, training, or safety program experience in the area of utilities, environment, industrial safety and health, or a related field
Necessary Special Requirements
- Valid Class E State Driver's license (or equivalent) at the time of appointment
- Individuals in this classification are considered essential during emergency and storm situations and must be able to work 16 hours per day for extended periods of time and may be required to be away from their family.
- An employee assigned to the Purdom Power Plant, or who occasionally may be required to have unescorted access to the Port Facility portion of the Purdom Power Plant, as determined by the General Manager-Electric & Gas, must obtain Transportation Workers Identification Credentials (TWIC) within 90 days of employment, and must maintain such credentials throughout his/her period of employment in that capacity as a condition of continued employment.
- An employee assigned to the Energy Supply Division must be medically certified to wear a respirator and pass a respirator fit test prior to employment.
- An employee assigned to Energy Supply must obtain within one year, and maintain for continued employment, HAZMAT and oil spill certifications within one year of employment.
- An employee assigned to the Gas Utility must obtain and maintain Energy WorldNet’s Master Evaluator Certification; The Florida Association of Code Enforcement’s Fundamentals of Code Enforcement Certification; Red Cross CPR/AED and Basic First Aid; 16-hr FDOT Maintenance of Traffic Intermediate Level Training; and 30-hr OSHA Construction Safety Training within one year of employment.
