Position Summary

As a Product Engineering Intern at Associated Materials, you will gain hands-on experience in product design, development, and testing while supporting a variety of projects within the siding and window profiles category. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to help bring new products to life and improve existing product lines. Your role will involve using CAD software, conducting feasibility studies, supporting materials selection, and contributing to the product development process. This internship offers an opportunity to build technical and project management skills while contributing to innovative and sustainable solutions.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist in the design, development, and validation testing of new products or improvements to existing product lines within the siding and window profiles categories.
  • Create detailed CAD designs and 3D models to support product design and development.
  • Translate user needs into technical requirements and support feasibility studies for innovative solutions.
  • Assist in the Stage-Gate product development process, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support material selection that enhances product performance, durability, and sustainability.
  • Support sourcing efforts by collaborating with suppliers to optimize raw materials for specific applications.
  • Learn and apply knowledge of material properties and manufacturing processes to ensure products meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate accountability, effective communication, and ownership of project outcomes while working independently with minimal direction.

 

Required Education, Experience & Skills:

  • Enrolled full-time in a Bachelor’s program in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field, with an anticipated graduation date of 2026.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with CAD software (preferably SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar) and 3D modeling.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Self-starter with a proactive attitude and the ability to work independently.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Coursework or previous experience in product design or materials science.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes relevant to building products.
  • Understanding of sustainability principles in manufacturing and product development.
  • Previous experience working on Stage-Gate product development processes or similar methodologies.
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex technical problems while maintaining a focus on innovation.

Location:
Cuyahoga Falls – Onsite Only

 

Work Environment:

The atmosphere is that of a manufacturing plant and office space. The position will primarily work where moving machinery produces noise. Employees must wear Personal Protective Equipment that is issued for that location. Temperature can range from extreme cold to extreme heat. Frequent use of company communication devices are required such as a computer, phone, and other office electronics.
