Your role and responsibilities: As Product Engineering Intern, you will work with the R&D and Product Engineering Teams to:
- Plan, prep, and run product experiments in the molten metal test furnace under operational conditions for documentation, presentation, and further analysis by technical experts.
- Develop a system to classify current product lines according to variations, quality, costs/margins, and application. Identify and complete trials for improvements and determine opportunities for standardization. Document the history of product development for the researched product offerings.
- Take corrective/preventive action data of known and unknown quality issues and create a pareto to identify product safety/quality risks to customer. Work with Manufacturing/Quality to prevent customer impact.
- Perform FMEA on a given product to identify risks/improvements to current product/process. This may include the opportunity to travel to an industrial steelmaking facility to conduct trials.
- Establish a system to store and track inventory of safety equipment and parts needed for trials.
What is required for this role:
- Current pursuit of a BS or MS in Mechanical, Metallurgy, Chemical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Interest in working in steel/foundry industry.
- Love solving problems and diving deep into data.
- Thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments (written + verbal).
- Bring curiosity, creativity, and a can-do attitude to everything you do.
- Enjoy working with Microsoft Office Apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) and willingness to learn SAP and Minitab.
- Able to work onsite in our Hartland, WI office (housing is not provided).
- Able to successfully complete a background check and drug screen.
- Able to work 40 hours per week during the summer internship period.
