Project Engineer
J.M. Miller Engineering, Inc. is a nationally known engineering consulting firm. We are based in Ann Arbor with both University of Michigan and Purdue faculty represented as principals. Our engineers have expertise in the mechanical, agricultural, industrial, electrical, safety, and human factors/ergonomics fields of engineering.
We specialize in the analysis and design of a wide array of consumer products, industrial processes, and commercial applications. We are also regularly involved in the analysis and development of product safety materials, including instructions, warnings, packaging, and operator manuals. Our work with power tools, agricultural equipment, recreational vehicles, children's products, and chemical contamination projects are substantial.
Most of our projects involve forensic investigation, product research, and testing, all from an engineering or safety perspective with the objective of making recommendations for improved designs, instructions, or warnings. We also investigate why a product may have failed, been contaminated, caught fire, or exploded as a part of an accident.
We are seeking a full-time, entry-level engineer with a background in mechanical and/or agricultural engineering. We are willing to consider applicants with degrees in other engineering disciplines as well. An interest in, and appreciation of, engineering safety principles is a must.
Strong applicants will be interviewed as quickly as possible after receipt of application materials. We are willing to immediately hire a very strong applicant who is still finishing his or her degree, as the nature of engineering consulting work affords a lot of flexibility.
Responsibilities may include:
- Inspection, analysis, testing, and documentation (including photographic) of project-related products, facilities, and accident scenes.
- Utilizing instrumentation devices, recording and analyzing data, using equipment, designing experiments, and performing statistical analyses.
- Focused research of literature, industry standards, government regulations, etc. that pertain to a specific product or safety issue.
- Review and documentation of sometimes voluminous client project materials.
- Preparation of reports (both internally and for clients), technical summaries, presentations, and visuals / graphics.
- Client contact and supervision of engineering and researcher staff.
- Prioritization and delegation of numerous tasks within multiple projects simultaneously.
As an engineering and safety consulting firm, our project activities can vary widely, even on a day-to-day basis. A good candidate will be eager to take on new and unexpected challenges on a regular basis.
