Introduction

 

The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is accepting applications for a Seasonal Worker (Environmental Planning Seasonal Worker - Cultural Resources) position in the Bureau of Policy and Planning Cultural Resources Unit, within the Office of Environmental Planning (OEP). 


 

We are seeking applicants with a history, architectural history, archaeology, anthropology, or historic preservation background for the Cultural Resources Unit. 


 

The Cultural Resources Unit conducts cultural resource compliance, including identification and evaluation of historic properties and archaeological sites, assessment of effects, as well as developing avoidance and mitigation measures and stakeholder and public outreach consultation requirements specific to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) for CTDOT projects.


 

Position Highlights:

  • Anticipated start date of May 1, 2026 and ending by September 30, 2026   
  • Monday-Friday, first shift
  • 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, seasonal
  • Location: Positions based in Newington, CT

The Role:

The seasonal position in the Cultural Resources Unit would gain experience in fulfilling the following duties: 

  • Assist in preparing documentary research that will aid Cultural Resources Unit staff with reviewing and determining the potential presence of cultural resources and determining impacts, avoidance, and mitigation methods. 
  • Assist in preparing GIS maps and supporting documentation for cultural resource reviews associated with design projects.  
  • Assist in preparing quarterly and annual reports for programmatic agreements, Memorandums of Agreement, and requests from federal and state agencies.     
  • Assist in preparing training and standard operating procedure documents for the unit.   
  • Assist in preparing presentations and reports of meetings for CTDOT projects that impact cultural resources with federal and state agencies, elected officials, tribal representatives, consulting parties, and the public.  
  • Assist in conducting field work with OEP Staff and task-based Cultural Resources Unit on-call consultants. 
  • Performing other related duties as required
