Supervising Environmental Engineer

The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to serve as a Supervising Environmental Engineer overseeing the Rule Implementation Unit within the Drinking Water Section (DWS) of the Environmental Health and Drinking Water Branch. This unit plays a vital role in ensuring compliance with federal and state drinking water regulations, helping to safeguard the health of approximately 2.9 million residents served by 2,400 public drinking water systems.

In this leadership role, you will supervise a team of professionals dedicated to implementing the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and ensuring that Connecticut’s public water systems deliver safe, reliable drinking water every day.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Hours/Shift: Full-time (35 hours per week), First Shift

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

Lead the Rule Implementation Unit to ensure compliance with SDWA regulations, including:
Groundwater Rule (GWR)
Revised Total Coliform Rule (RTCR)
Lead and Copper Rule (LCR) and Revisions (LCRR)
Disinfection Byproducts Rules (DBPR)
Surface Water Treatment Rule (SWTR)
And more
Supervise, train, and evaluate staff performance
Oversee review and analysis of water quality data for compliance with Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs), Treatment Techniques (TTs), and monitoring/reporting requirements
Manage issuance of violation notices and compliance letters
Coordinate technical assistance and communication with public water systems (PWSs)
Collaborate with other DWS units and supervisors to ensure effective implementation of drinking water laws
Review sample siting plans, waiver requests, operational reports, and seasonal startup procedures
