Description of Duties: Leads human resource management and/or human resource development activities of an organization to maximize the strategic use of human resources. Maintains functions such as employee compensation, recruitment, policy development, and regulatory compliance. Oversee the development and implementation of human resources policies. Directs subordinate supervisors and staff. Will manage large numbers of agency staff or have large scope of responsibility within agency.

 

Job Specific Duties: Under broad supervision, serves as the Department’s State Safety Manager and is responsible for promoting a culture of safety throughout the Department. The State Safety Manager serves as a liaison to other State agencies and safety related organizations.  Duties include but are not limited to developing and maintaining safety related policies; overseeing the Department’s workers compensation program; conducting regular safety meetings and trainings; ensuring compliance with State and Federal standards, rules and regulations; recommending loss control measures to prevent recurrence of accidents, if preventable. The State Safety Manager communicates regularly with Department management and field staff on the status of key safety priorities.  This position supervises and evaluates the work of staff, including staff located at One Georgia Center in Atlanta, GA, district staff located remotely throughout the State as well as consultants.

  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications

  

STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

·         High school diploma/GED and four (4) years of managerial or supervisory experience in human resources; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower-level Mgr., Human Resources (HRM010) or position equivalent. Note: An equivalent combination of knowledge, education, job or intern experience, training, or certifications that provide the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully perform the job at the level listed maybe substituted year-over-year. 

 

AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Extensive professional work experience in the field of occupational safety
  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting industrial/manufacturing work-place safety practices and standards, safety regulations and laws
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and guide others toward accomplishment of Safety goals   
  • Demonstrated experience inspecting facilities and worksites to ensure compliance with safety laws, policies, regulations and procedures

In addition to the qualifications above, the selected applicant must demonstrate the following:

·        Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to express ideas and facts to groups and individuals effectively 

·        Experience identifying and solving problems and applying innovative solutions to make organizational improvements

·        Experience negotiating to find mutually acceptable solutions  

·        Experience identifying and analyzing complex problems, creating alternative workable solutions to complex problems 

·        Proficient computer skills

·        Experience preparing and delivering clear and convincing oral presentations, to teach, motivate and persuade others to accept recommendations  

·        Initiative and commitment towards completing tasks  

·        Ability to comprehend and adapt to new policies and procedures  

·        Experience organizing and prioritizing work, adapting flexible approach to organizational needs and routines  

·        Commitment to providing quality customer service      

 

AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Four years of related experience
  • Extensive professional level work experience in the field of workplace safety for a state agency, federal agency or private organization
  • Possession of a recognized safety certification or completion of a formal safety training program
  • Knowledge of Worker’s Compensation law, reporting process and procedures
