Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Civil Designer Co-Op to join our Civil Engineering team. This role is ideal for a student pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering who is eager to apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects in a professional setting.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Experience producing site/civil documents in an A/E or Civil Engineering design firm (required) 
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D (preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • LEED certification a plus
  • Comfortable with a broad range of project types
  • Experience using AASHTO ODOT design standards (desired)
  • Experience using MicroStation GEOPAK (desired)
  • Experience designing Civil work to meet LEED criteria
  • Comfortable working on parallel assignments
  • Familiarity with building design and construction
  • Proactive and assertive in problem solving
  • Comfortable working on parallel assignments
  • Comfortable working in teams and making group presentations
  • Familiarity with A/E industry BIM standards a plus
  • Experience using REVIT (desired)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD a plus
  • Good written and oral communications skills; fluent in speaking, reading and writing in English

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Help our clients achieve their goals
  • Work with Civil Engineers and Project Managers to meet KZF goals and objectives
  • Support Civil Engineering projects under the supervision of Civil Engineers and other KZF staff
  • Maintain a general knowledge of architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection and telecom building systems; coordinate these systems with the Civil design.
  • Prepare Civil design and construction documents in AutoCAD Civil 3D, per applicable standards
  • Prepare documents in conformance with KZF standards and quality control requirements
  • Assist with the preparation of Civil Engineering design studies, design narratives, calculations, and analysis
  • Assist with the preparation of design documents as required for all phases of design (concept, schematic, design development, construction documents)
  • Maintain technical accuracy, constructability, code conformance, and appropriate level of detail for project scopes
  • Assist with the preparation of outline and final construction document specifications, and coordinate the work with other project specifications
  • Participating in value engineering
  • Attend and participate in project team meetings
  • Seek advice from Project Engineers and the Director of Civil Engineering Services, as required
  • Interface with all professional disciplines assigned to the project to coordinate the Civil Engineering work
  • Remain current with new products and tools that will assist you in better meeting our client’s needs
  • Assist with researching building materials and systems and selecting appropriate items for incorporation into the building design
  • Assist with field investigations and participate in construction site observation visits as requested
  • Maintain technical expertise in your profession and area of work
  • Provide AutoCAD Civil 3D support to the CA Department and other team members on projects
  • Assist with construction administration, review shop drawings, prepare construction submittals, participate in construction site observation, prepare Request for Information (RFI) responses and work with the Construction Administration Department and other team members to resolve construction issues in a timely manner
