Electrical Engineer (13804)
Overview
This position provides engineering support for the Lexington Operations Center. This position takes on responsibilities related to the design, construction, maintenance, and protection of the electrical distribution system. These responsibilities include designing both overhead and underground systems, and analysis of overcurrent protection, line capacitor and recloser installation, and other power quality and service reliability initiatives. This role offers a balanced mix of field work and computer-based applications.
This position will be filled based on the candidates experience level: Engineer I, II, III or Principal.
Responsibilities
Examines and determines options, based upon technical knowledge of work required to meet company construction standards, meet regulatory requirements, and which can be integrated into operational processes.
Routinely interfaces with other departments, other utility companies, outside agencies, and end customers, regarding provision of electric service.
Identifies opportunities for improvement and/or suggests improved methods and gathers, correlates, and analyzes specific data using established procedures.
Performs detailed and/or routine engineering assignments involving established calculations, tests, and analysis.
Prepares and presents electric construction designs, requiring self-analysis and recommendations, for related system reliability, electric service, and/or engineering activities.
Proposes, justifies, and manages installation of equipment, structures and devices needed for the Company to comply with construction standards and reliability efforts.
Supports operating and maintenance functions with engineering analysis, troubleshooting, problem identification, and problem resolution activities.
Directs the activities of interns, as instructed, as they perform various activities including use of engineering design tools, field tools, etc.
Attends departmental safety meetings and conducts periodical safety audits. Completes required training, including safety courses and regulatory awareness training.
Performs other duties as directed by management.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Qualifications
ABET accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to use formal engineering training in practical application to utility design assignments.
